Mr. Jay West, Former Vice Mayor of Nashville, Addresses Resident Leaders

President Lowry's vision, "The city of Nashville is our classroom and the world is our campus," inspires the office of Residence Life to create tangible moments for residents to realize this vision.  Recently, Nashville's former vice mayor Jay West spoke to a group of 60 resident student leaders during a special dinner hosted by the Office of Residence Life.  Mr. West provided an energetic, detailed, and riveting exploration of the history of Nashville that captured the attention of all in attendance.  "Mr. West was able to share his passion for the great city of Nashville with our students and he created a contagious buzz that will encourage the students to connect with Nashville," said Sam Smith, Lipscomb's Director of Residence Life.  If Lipscomb's student leaders are connected with Nashville, they will be able to reach out and connect their peers to the city so finding an internship, job, or community event will be easier for students.  "We tell our students that the city of Nashville is our classroom, and the world is our campus," said Joe Woodfin, Residence Life Specialist. "Mr. West gave students an opportunity to learn a little more about the distinguished history of our 'classroom' so that students can get involved and contribute to its future."

Katherine Sloan, a resident assistant in Elam Hall, added, "I've lived in Nashville my whole life and didn't know many of the things that Mr. West shared. It was very educational and entertaining!"

Mr. West continues to serve the community as Executive Director of the County Officials Association of Tennessee.
